Stretch & Release

About

STRETCH & RELEASE examines the interplay between tension and release as experienced in everyday forms of discrimination. The work approaches resilience not as a stable condition, but as an ongoing process shaped by endurance, adaptation, and moments of temporary relief. The title reflects this dynamic: stretching as sustained pressure and constraint, and release as fleeting gestures of letting go. The animated figure functions as a composite body, drawing on personal experiences across different social and geographic contexts outside the artist’s country of origin. Situated within a space resembling a therapeutic environment, the figure moves through fragments of memory, accompanied by the recurring image of ocean waves displayed on the wall. This contrast between inner strain and an externally projected calm foregrounds the ambivalence of coping mechanisms and the fragile nature of resilience.
